Update 09.14.2011

Greetings from Billings MT!

We are here for a conference I am attending and yesterday Ken and Dodi spent the day with Dodi's brother John.  Ken reports they had a very enjoyable day visiting and just hanging out!

On my post of 9.9.2011 I let everyone know that Dodi had decided NOT to have the surgery in Salt Lake City.  It was a long winded post and the information about her decision was at the end of the post.

Dodi woke up the morning after the conversation with the surgeons saying she didn't want to do it.  Her primary concern with making the decision was whether or not we would still take her camping to Yellowstone.  We of course are going to do that later this month.

Update 09.09.2011

Greetings everyone, some of you have indicated you would like to leave a post but you don't know how.  The first step is to create a gmail account.  I am pretty sure if you just click the sign in button it will lead you through the process to create an account.

Dodi is doing really well.  We have finally gotten her blood sugars fairly under control and that is a relief!  I haven't posted for a while because on Tuesday, 9/6, Ken and Dodi talked with the surgeons both here and in Salt Lake.  The surgeon in Salt Lake expressed concern over conducting the surgery on someone mom's age. He said he would do it but he was concerned about mom's ability to make it through the surgery and about her ability to recover from the surgery.

Ken, Dodi and Sharie talked about the whole decision alot on Tuesday night and on Wednesday morning mom woke up saying she didn't want to do it.  She said she wasn't afraid to die and she knew she was going to die someday one way or another. She just didn't want to go through a surgery that was going to make her hurt more and wasn't going to help to relieve any of the pain that she currently lives with.

We are honoring her decision and have let the folks in Salt Lake know she won't be coming down for the surgery.

The humorous side of this very serious decision, is that Dodi's primary concern was whether or not we would still take her camping to Yellowstone if she decided to not have the surgery!!!!  Yes, of course we will be taking Dodi camping to Yellowstone!

In fact, my family is having a large family reunion in Concordia, MO in October and we are trying to figure out a circuitous route to go camping to Yellowstone on our way to Missouri!  Hopefully we will get to see alot of folks during our travels.

Update 09.03.2011

Dodi just finished reading a book!  This is very exciting because that means it kept her attention and she was able to maintain her attention on the book long enough to read it!  Very exciting!  There have been other changes in Dodi's memory that have been encouraging as well.  The other day she remembered a conversation from the previous day.  The times when we have the same conversation over and over seem to be getting fewer and fewer which is also encouraging.  I hope you all have a great day today and a wonderful Labor Day weekend.  We are planning to head back out to do some more camping today!

Update 9.2.2011

We had hoped to hear from Dr. Winston or Dr. Ott today, but we didn't hear from either.  I called around 3:20 p.m. today to see if Dr. Winston's nurse might have any information for us, but both Dr. Winston and his nurse were gone for the day.

Dodi has been having considerable pain in her back and legs.  It wakes her up at night and causes her legs to not want to work in the morning for a while.  We are planning to head out to go camping in the morning again.  Everything seems to be better and more tolerable when we are camping.

I will try to post more pictures before the weekend is over!

Update 08.31.2011

Ken took Dodi for the ERCP test today and Dr. Ayres removed two gall stones from her common bile duct tube.  Dr. Ayres reports that he saw no need for taking brushings as he saw no need to biopsy and tissues.  Dr. Ayres spoke with Dr. Winslow (the surgeon who took out Dodi's gall bladder) and Dr. Winslow will be calling us after he has spoken with Dr. Ott who is in Salt Lake City.  This is truly the best case scenario for the outcome of the ERCP test.  We believe we will be hearing from Dr. Ott or Dr. Winslow soon and that they will want Dodi to go to Salt Lake City for the surgery!  Woo Hoo!!!  Looks like Dodi will get to pester Ken for alot more years!
